DID YOU KNOW?

DID YOU KNOW?

  • At birth, a panda is smaller than a mouse and weighs about four ounces.
  • The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is “Uncopyrightable”

  • Because so many Indians speak English, India now has the largest population of English speakers in the world.

  • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has an endowment of US $ 40.2 billion.

Betrayal

One fine day you came into my life,
Pleasingly gorgeous you were.
More and more I burdened you
but not a word of despair.

Every time I kept wondering
how can someone be saint like?
Darn! I didn't realize,
you were hatching a conspiracy.

Not a single sign you showed me
here, I lose everything I stored.
You betrayed me! Oh my pen drive!
How I wish I had a backup file!

- Madhushree

Waiting for the beginning

You’re like something I may never get but only see & feel
When I’m right beside you, I cease to believe life’s real
Thinking about you I forget life’s miseries & I transcend
You look more graceful than, on a starless sky, the crescent

You remind me of my happiest memories and my most beautiful dreams
You make me feel so good about myself, you make me feel free
You defy all the logic that I spend my time thinking
My eyes shine looking at you, I realize that I haven’t been blinking

Whenever I see you I observe that smile so benevolent
Those eyes ocean deep, that charming face, that demeanor, so elegant
You’re like a fleeting emotion that I’m never tired of giving another chase
It’s like the whole universe lies right there in that pretty face

Sometimes I wonder when did you leave heaven, how did they let you go?
Thinking God intended you for me, makes me believe in hope
Your presence makes me believe that there’s a God above
Why are you so far away from me, why don’t we just fall in love?

Every girl loves to beautify things, including herself and her surroundings as well. She always adds that “aesthetic’ element to everything. Be it a LBD or Red Lipstick or Pump heels in which she can barely stand.

Let me introduce Deepa Naidu to you all, who has successfully taken the styling of accessories to level - 2. Here’s a small interview with her:

How did it all start Deepa?
It all started with a small request from my cousin, to make a pair of hand crafted bows. Later, this developed interest in within and eventually, I have become a Businesswoman, I have a brand of my own - Flaunt It!

What are artifacts/articles that you make?
I have always been emphasizing on the creativity and making hand crafted artifacts. So it came as a little surprise that my talent today has reached places. From making hair accessories and jewellery for friends and family to keeping stalls in major events like Soul Santhe , is what I have done until now. I have started catering to demands from various parts of India. Also, Flaunt It! Makes accessories for toddlers to ladies.

What is that factor, which interested you in this area?
Being a fashionable woman myself, it comes naturally to me to create novel, colorful and unique hair accessories and jewelry. We launched Flaunt it! in April, 2013 with a wide range of products like Feather Extensions, Dream Catchers, Bow Clips, Feather Earrings, Bracelets, Anklets to name a few. Is there

Anything that you would want to convey to our readers?
Please check out the Flaunt It! Page on Facebook. (facebook/flauntit)

Lastly, is there anything in store for men?
You can definitely pave a way into Women’s heart with these wonderful Accessories and Jewelry

My Bangalore – Rtr. Arnab Mukherjee

At some point in time, every one of us feels that there’s a rebel inside. The only question is: Is that a rebel without a cause?; Or do we really have a cause?

Deep down we know what has been bothering us. Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the voices inside our
head. Maybe it’s the silence of the voices outside which we fail to understand.
So we, as rotaractors, strive to give a voice to a society which is otherwise numb. Numb, not because they’ve stopped feeling the pain. Numb, because there’s no one to voice their opinions and take actions in the right direction.

As rotaractors, we don’t promise that we’ll do different things. We don’t promise that we’ll change this city. We don’t promise that we’ll focus only on making this city more prosperous. Ain’t that the quintessential government manifesto talk?

They say it’s the hottest fires that make the hardest steel. With hard work and conviction and with the knowhow that runs generation deep in every last one of us rotaractors, we promise to deliver results. We promise to take steps to make this city an example for others to follow.

We are not the golden city. We are not the city of joy. We are certainly not the finance city. And we don’t take the moniker of being the “Silicon Valley of India” as a compliment. This is the Garden city. And this is what we are

What is a Rotaract Club? - Rtn. John Bruno

A Rotaract club is a Rotary sponsored club for 18-30 year-olds that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship, encourages high ethical standards in business, and promotes international peace and understanding.

How did Rotaract start?

What do Rotaract clubs do?
• Community Service Projects
• Professional Development Activities
• Leadership Development Activities

1. Community Service
-Rotaract clubs participate in community service projects in an effort to improve the lives of the people around them.
-Often Rotaractors partner with other Rotaract clubs to participate in international service projects.
-Rotaractors not only have great ideas about how to help people in need, but together they have the power to make these ideas
work!

 2. Leadership Development

-A club’s leadership development activities not only aim to make members more effective leaders in their personal lives, but also
teach them how to develop and sustain strong clubs with relevant projects.
 -Improving public speaking skills
-Techniques for marketing the Rotaract program to potential members.
 -Building consensus among members
-Delegating project responsibilities & ensuring the necessary follow-up
-Identifying channels for project publicity and promotion
 -Finding financial resources
 -Accessing project success

 3. Professional Development
-Rotaract clubs’ professional development activities expand the members’ understanding of the work environment and business
opportunities within their community.
-Sponsoring Rotarians can enhance the activities by providing practical advice on entering the business world and overcoming
business, vocational and professional challenges.

Why Join Rotaract?
Today’s young people will become tomorrow’s professionals, parents, business leaders and community leaders.
With the help of programs like Rotaract, they can gain the tools necessary to develop into responsible, productive members of
society.

“The real benefit for me is that maybe one day I will leave the world slightly better off than how I found it, whether it is because I have volunteered, raised funds or just improved my own knowledge by listening to a speaker and being inspired.” ---Cindy LaGreca, Rotaract club of Chicago, IL, USA

“The network of friendship, the fantastic possibilities to get involved with worldwide understanding, and the interesting and dedicated members I meet are the main reasons why I am a member of a Rotaract club.”

President’s note - Navnita Vivek

Like Hugh Laurie says “It’s a terrible
thing, I think, in life to wait until
you’re ready. I have this feeling now
that actually no one is ever ready to
do anything. There is almost no such
thing as ready. There is only now.
And you may as well do it now.
Generally speaking, now is as good a
time as any”

It was just a month and a half ago
when Rtn. John Bruno (Dir. Youth Service – 2014-15) of Rotary Club of Bangalore South Parade initiated the talk of starting a Rotaract
Club. Then thoughts mulled over this idea and, there we were at our Orientation Session, sponsored by Rotary Club of Bangalore South Parade, headed by President, Rtn. Vivek Hallur, which took place on
18th March, 2014.

The Orientation Session paved way for a better understanding about the Rotaract Movement among the members and called for a tremendous feedback. Moving on, we had an Open House Meet, a very casual meeting on 30th March, 2014. Like Rtr.Arnab said, “Ain't nothing better than a Sunday spent knowing new People!” the meeting got all the members closer, with some fun interactive sessions.

We also had an early morning Open Park Meet on 13th  April, 2014 where President-Elect Rtn. Gopal Rao addressed our gathering, enlightening us more on the way of working by Rotary and Rotaract. It is overwhelming that, time after time we are having new members join the Club. The Rotary has decided to host an Induction Ceremony on 19th April, 2014 to officially induct all the young and promising Rotaractors. Now we are 30 bright and chirpy youngsters here to take a new step towards a new beginning to make our
society a better place for us to live in!
